For most people, gambling is harmless. More than just being harmless, it's a pastime, entertainment, and basically just fun. However, there are people who abuse their hobbies and develop a problem. Gambling is not immune from this.

The National Problem Gambling Awareness Week, taking place this week in the USA (March 7-13), is an opportunity to discuss these addiction issues openly and tackle them head on.

True, the rapid expansion of gambling, mainly over the internet, has helped fuel the problem. However, online casinos are not the prime suspects when it comes to this, and lotteries, even state run and national lotteries, are more "usual" suspects. The web actually offers many resources for problem gamblers and their friends and relatives.

An interesting stat was reported recently by the New York Council on Problem Gambling, claiming 1 million problem gamblers in the Big Apple. Experts believe 1 in 5 or 6 people who gamble can develop an addiction. Though the definition of problem gamblers may be argued, the potential for risk is there, and warning signs should be noticed and paid attention to by all.

The casinos you play at offer help and advice for problem gambling. So does Online Casino Reports. These resources go out to all gamblers, players, lottery card scratchers - and their social circles. Knowledge is power and responsible gaming is the order of the day.
